Let's just say that they started with "Assknocker" and ended with "Get It On". Need I say more??? Kickin' it from start to finish. [Notice: no 'Time To Go...']
It was a sweatfest. Bob was sweating by the second song. All except maybe the bottom two inches of his shirt were drenched by the end of the show. It was a packed house with no a/c....maybe 85-90 degrees at night. The venue is about the size of Saxon Pub (from the bar forward). It was smelling pretty bad in there after about an hour or so. I'd rather smell cigarette smoke than bad b/o. Unfortunately, smoking in public places is prohibited in Tempe. (Although, Mike was smoking behind the drums. I guess noone told him.) So all we got was the unpleasant stench of body odor. 90 degrees and a jam packed room of grooving, dancing, shakin' bodies. You imagine it!
My feet never hurt so much. It is probably the second best show I have ever seen. The very best being the Saxon show two weeks ago.
I said I hoped that Bob would come to Phoenix to kick our asses and he and the boys did not disappoint. He even started off after the second song by saying "Billy said he was gonna kick some ass tonight. I thought he was fucking with me. But he wasn't."
Bob got a real kick out of my newspaper clipped ransom-style request list. He held it up to the audience and said "If you want a request, THIS is the way to dooo it! That way, if we don't play your song, then you can find us after the show, kill us, and they'll never trace it back to you....This is really cool."
Oh, by the way, this show was video taped.
A representative from Universal Records was also there giving out promotional "Big Blue Sea" CDs....the one with the child's (?) drawing of Bob on the CD - in blue and white.
I'm just remembering things in bits and pieces. Yes, it was one of those shows that was so phenomenal that you just know you're forgetting
something.....because it's impossible to remember EVERYTHING that was so great about it...there's just too much.
Oh, the audience participation level was remarkable - considering it's an Arizona crowd. Bob didn't even need to sing "Round and Round"...the audience did it for him.
Here's some of the setlist - totally out of order because I didn't write them down.
*Assknocker

Metal & Steel

** = noted for the 2003 album
Oh, and there was one song that I never heard before. I kept noting the lyrics, but lost them with the last three beers. (Kelly's Note: It was "Pencil Me In"
Most enjoyable moment of the night: Watching Billy after the show practicing his kung-fu moves by the bus. Billy really was out to kick some ass tonight! There's some funky shit going on in that boy! LOL!

I went to see Cowboy Mouth on 5/4/02 in New Orleans, and caught the opening band. I had no idea who they were at first, but they totally grabbed my ear. It turns out, the band was Bob Schneider and they were totally amazing! They had interesting musical lines that did not get stuck in a rut- each new song had a different feel and all were equally great. They were all clearly great musicians. They totally engaged the audience- even going into the audience and pulling people up to dance. It was a fun show and I would love to see them again. The only problem was that the band left with their CDs before I could buy one! I highly recommend seeing this band play.

I went to the show last night. And there were some vocal effects (it seemed like 4 songs or so). Even with the vocal effects I thought this was one of the best Saxon Pub shows I have been to in a long time. Bob was in a great mood and the music sounded great. He took a good number of requests and played a lot of my favorite songs.
Here is the songs I remember:
Ice Cream Smile
Sweet Sound
Going Down
Lorena
Whoa Song????
6 million dollar man
Big Blue Sea
Tarantula
Losing You
Slip Slidding Away (Paul Simon)
Honey Bomb
2002
Time to go first in the style of Bon Jovi and then switched to Jimmy Buffet
They played more but that's all I can remember.

The Khyber is a relatively small place. A hole in the wall place but a great club to see a band in. There were probably a hundred people there, tops. And you could stand right in front of the stage which is what we did! It was so great to be able to make eye contact with the band (not Mike obviously) through the show. Billy is too cute!! Oh my gosh, they ALL were! I could dance, sing along, make eye contact, get smiles exchanged...... nothing like seeing a wonderful band in a setting like that.
They did start with Bullets. It was a funkdified version though. And let's see, Bones was off the hook! It was mean and nasty and hard edged. He kind of growled it. Under My Skin was the same way. He seemed almost mad singing it. They really didn't play any of the songs just like the cd but that is brilliant in my book. I realy wanted to hear Oklahoma and when they started it, I let out this little yelp. lol Not sure if they heard it.... just had to laugh at myself. They played the Stiffy song too! Not sure if it was that one but I think it was....he started it by talking about meeting a woman last time in Philly who did something with porn. It was all very funny. He was laughing at the whole thing. One of the main things that stuck in my head is that he didn't say anything at first. He started with Bullets and sang the next four songs without stopping in between. Just one to the next. It was great.
They did play a lot of new songs. Not sure of the name of one of them...but it was just Bob and the guitar. The line that I remember was he kept saying "my head hurts." Something about "even when my arms are around you, my head hurts." Anyone know about this? I swear he had all of us in the palm of his hands with this one. It was so quiet in there. Absolutely wonderful. I also really, really really love Baby C'mon. They took that one through all different levels of intensity and it's just a flat out great song.
Now the only thing that didn't happen and I'm not even sure I care now, is they didn't play Boom Boom Baby. The guy next to me asked for Orlando and he did that. Then he asked for requests, said "raise your hand" so mine of course shot up. lol He looked right at me and said "yeah, you" (I was like a smitten kid I tell you! lol) I said boom boom and he kind of did a big sigh and wiped his brow. lol So I said quickly "Pushin on the pull bar" and he said he didn't know it! I didn't care though. It was just cool to have him ask me first. I did ask for Tartanula a couple of songs later and he said "yeah, that one we can do" so I was tickled. He said we were a good sing along crowd ....we had done so well on the Methadone song that they would do Tartanula. It was sooooooo great!! I do think they were surprised how much of the songs and lyrics the crowd knew.
The rest of you are right about how nice and approachable they are. I got two things signed, got to tell him how much I liked the show and stuff like that. Got my picture taken with him.....thank you Cindy! I talked a bit to Bruce too and told him that they were wonderful. He's so cool to watch play. Hell they all are. I wish I had a videographic (is that a word?) brain. I loved the whole thing.
Forgot to mention that he didn't play Jingy. Didn't miss it much though...too much else going on.
The weird drunk guy...... When Bob was introducing Tartanula, this guy kept yelling. Loudly. Bob was doing the what to sing-where stuff and this guy yells out, "stop talking and start singing mother****er!" (or something really close to that) Bob didn't miss a beat. He says to the rest of us (after saying "under the stars")"or sing 'start singing mother****er.'" He handled the guy well. Then the jerk comes right up front, next to me, tosses his backpack on the stage, climbs up the 3 small steps and jumps off into the crowd! I jumped onto Cindy to get out of the way and basically everyone else moved too. Don't think anyone attempted to catch the guy. He came back right next to me, got his backpack and stayed for the rest of the song. I was very relieved when he left after Tarantula. The band kept on the whole time, not missing any of the song. (Kelly's note: Word has it that some lucky fan got her claws into that stumblin' drunk.)
I tell you guys, I am so impressed by their musicianship. They all make it look easy and they are all phenominal (sp?) players. When Mike did his solo, Bob went back there with his guitar and Mike did some drumming on it while Bob played the fret board. Very cool.
I took some pictures...so hopefully they came out well and we can get them up at your website Kelly Anne. Later all!

It has been nearly a week since I had the pleasure of seeing Bob on stage, and I'm STILL not over it. My OWN brother "forgot" to pick me up for the show so after an hour and a half bus ride through the middle of a Vikings/Packers frenzy, when I got to the Fitzgerald (a really intimate, old theater) I was a bit spazzed out.
Ike Reilly opened and in Minnesota, Dylanesque is always a good thing. In my EXTREME ignorance (having never heard Bob Live before) I would have been content if only Ike had shown. He's groovy and I'm sorry the folks in Denver missed out. I am a bit jealous of those in Denver who did get the pleasure of a Billy Harvey opening. Billy can open for me ANY TIME...
Which brings me to BOB. What can I say? Bob & Co. came out and rocked- my brother got there after about the third song and Bob had me in such a good mood that I forgave him for his previous complete lack of consideration for me. I went with a group of about 8 and we had a Kick-A$$ time.
Look, I don't remember everything that they played, but they played everything from Lonleyland. Bob had the stage lights all turned up and shortly thereafter came down the steps into the audience and climbed into the crowd. I had second row tickets so was already up front next to the stage by this time, but those who were still in the audience were able to get some really sweet snaps.
The best thing about Bob is that he makes each person feel as though he is singing straight to them- he's not afraid of holding eye contact. By the time he played "2002," I had tears just streaming down my face. Later in the show Bob played Pudding and Cheese, Batman, Tarantula, and (at my friend, Chris' request) Boom Boom Baby. I had heard it before, but there was
something different about being so close while he said, "I'm not your Daddy, I'm your lover..."
He also played a song that is supposed to be on the next album.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I was enamored by Billy Harvey. He has a way of making it look WAY too easy~ he's super likeable and he looks like he'd enjoy being up there even if only one person were in the audience.
Bruce made me want to hug him.
All I can say is that I wish I'd been to a show earlier in the tour! Unfortunately, I had to jet right
after the concert (much to my chagrin), but it turns out the girl who was standing next to me at the
concert is also in one of my classes. The next day she confided that she'd gotten to hang out with Bob and the band "on the bus" and that all the guys were just "so cool and nice" and "down to earth".
She and I are now planning a road-trip to Austin.

All I can say is "WOW!!!" Bob and the guys were absolutely amazing, fun, funky, hilarious, cool, and most of all, KICK ASS last night! I had the best, best time. Made me so homesick for Austin, where I used to be able to see him once a week!
On to the show (this will probably get long, so be prepared)...
Ike Reilly, the opener, never showed. So Billy, the guitar player, came out and opened up. He played an acoustic guitar set and was really good. He told the story that Bob and the guys will pick a title for a song. Then they'll all go off in their separate corners and write their own words to this titled song. As an example, someone came up with Pixie Sticks (Stix?) as the title of the song. So Billy came back with his own version and he sang it last night. It was so funny. One of the lyrics was about how Pixie sticks with him...maybe you had to be there, but it was funny. There was also a funny song called "Fingers."
So then Bob and the rest of the gang came out and started off with "Big Blue Sea." "Bones" was next, which was a complete surprise, because I didn't think I'd hear any Scabs/Ugly Americans songs. "Round and Round" was after that. Then my stupid pen ran out, so I don't have the complete listing/order of the rest of the songs. I know they played "Metal and Steel," "Jingy," "Bullets," "Tokyo," "Under My Skin," "Blue Skies for Everyone," and "2002." (Obviously I went in order off the Loneland cd there, but that wasn't the order at the show.) "Tarantula," "Orlando," and that Batman song were the other Scabs/Ugly Americans songs played.
Billy Harvey, the guitarist, is AMAZING. That guy can jam. His solos just had everyone in awe. He got much applause all night. Not to say that the rest of the guys can't jam either. I wish I had as much talent as they do in my pinky finger!
Annoying moment: The crowd down in front of me seemed to be mostly Austin fans. These drunk girls kept yelling for Bob to play "Big Butts and Blowjobs" and he said that he didn't know that song. So then they yelled some other Scab song and he said that he didn't know that one either. I wonder if he gets annoyed with the people that only come to hear Scabs stuff? I think I would. He's on his own now, has new stuff he wants to share with everyone, and here are these people who are stuck in the past and don't want to hear that new stuff. It's annoying to me because I enjoy everything that is Bob Schneider and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next! But I digress...
He played some AMAZING new stuff that seemed to have a harder edge. One was a reggae-tinted song that really had a groove to it. There was an alternative-rock-jam (how do you classify that) that got everyone kind of banging their head a little.
I really could go on and on. Obviously this is long enough already so I'll try to wrap this up. I did take pictures but I don't think I'll have them developed until next week. I asked him after the show when his newer stuff will come out. He said that he'll put out a record with Universal that will probably come out this summer but he'll probably put one out on his own that could come out this winter sometime. How cool is that!
I'm totally on cloud nine today. I really had the best time last night. Go see Bob live...you'll never regret it, nor will you ever forget it.

Bob came out right on time on Weds night. Which if you are a big concert goer you know is an amazing feet in and of itself. Again I am sorry I did not get back to you ASAP. You see I can't recall all the songs he played on Weds. But I do know that he F*CKING rocked again.
I remember he came out with a song off the Lonelyland album. It looked like he was gauging the crowd and from there he went off. He did a fantastic version of Tarantula and my jaw must have been hanging cuz my girlfriend shut it for me when he started in on Staysha Brown. He worked in his admiration of Uma Thurmans butt into that one and I tell you, knowing Bob could have had a V-8 but instead had a Forty, had me loving life right at that moment.
I spent more time focusing on the other members of the band this time around. I love the way Bruce plays.... however I wonder if he knows just how much like Willy Wonka he looks like? Mind you that is not a diss on him, cuz everyone knows Willy Wonka kicks much chocalate ass. My girlfreind and her friend both nailed down my perception of Billy the guitarist. He has a way about him that makes you want to give him an Eagle Scout award. And....Oh Lordy that boy can wail on his stick.
While he was on stage Bob mentioned that his manager was in the crowd and that he was going to get talked to about not moving around on stage enough. He said that he had moved so much while at Canes in San Diego he woke up with a stiff neck. This I can attest to, he was all over in SD. For me, I didn't care if Bob stood at his mic and didn't shake his moneymaker at all. I was there to hear the songs sung by the artist capable of such beauties as Big Butts and Blowjobs. However according to my girlfreind and her friend, a little ass wiggling ain't a bad thing at all. I was awestruck in his ability to go from a song like 2002 into a jive ditty like The Batman song, this time done a bit faster like I first remember hearing it. Bob didn't ask for requests nor did he do any signings after the show like he usually does, this was th eonly downside to the show.
I went with my girlfriend, her brother and a coworker of hers. They are all converts now. I have gone on a crusade and now have disciples in the cult of Bob. I would quit my job and follow Bob around like Dead Heads did for the Grateful Dead if I didn't enjoy eating and having a roof so damn much. We could go by the monicker "Bob Slobs". I guess thats about it, I did have a celebrity sighting, being in Hollywood and all. Dennis Quaid saw fit to be graced by Bob. I thought that was cool, but I was too busy with the show to care for more then a quick glance at the star of Innerspace.

I have lost my voice because of the yelling I had to do last night. I saw Bob open for Train in Hollywood and San Diego, then I saw him open for Ms. Nicks in Irvine. If you take those three shows and melt them up, put them in a blender and frappe yourself up a Bob shake you don't get close to the hardcore SHOT of Bob 101 we were blessed with last night. I was worried he might not do any of the older stuff, by older I mean Ugly Americans but to my surprise (and great pleasure) they started of with one of my fave UA songs...Candyman. He then went into a rocking version of Bullets and after that it all just fused into a night of musical joy for me. I did ask him to do Batman to Copacabana and he turned out a small version of the Copacabana but alas no mention of the caped crusader in it. But I did think it was cool that he belted out a few bars of the old Barry Manilow standard.
They turned out some songs I had never heard before and I was loving it...esp. the "Rock this motherfucker all night Y'All!!" song. That song moved me to tears. The christian rock song was classic. I dont think there was a moment during the show that I didn't enjoy. It was good to see Bob in an environment that he was comfortable with and able to open up and put on the show I know he has in him. The end of the night he did do some requests, he took 4 or 5 songs and melded them together in a way that was jaw dropping to me. He amazes me. I hope his next album is out soon and that he's in Austin next summer when I visit my mom.

THE SHOW - Onstage Exchanges
(These are quick recollections, so please don't mind the jumping around)
After Bob sang the "Fuck all night long.." song, he commented that he couldn't remember the lyrics and if you had paid attention, you would know that he just mumbled through most of it. He talked about the millions of albums sold by "Mumblers" and mentioned Kurt Cobain. Big Money. "Big Big Big Big Big Big Money in mumbling...."
While taking requests, one person requested the "Batman" song and another requested "Copacabana" (to which Bob cracked up!) Then Bob tells the audience: "Here's what we're going to do. We'll sing "Batman" in the Copacabana style!" He and the guys proceeded to spend 3-4 minutes trying to figure out the chords. Bob came back and played about three lines and then said "MMmmm...this ain't going to happen." Gotta give it to them for making the effort!
Billy talked about having family in Tucson and that he came through Phoenix and the morning Deejay said "Phoenix is the only place where you can say 'It's gonna be cooler today. It'll be 104!'" Bob talked about coming through Phoenix on the "Whore" tour and breaking his arm, which had to be put in a half body cast - where the arm is held straight out with a bar to the hip. He said that he couldn't wash and had the worst b.o. and had to ask his bandmates to wash his other armpit because he couldn't reach it to wash it. He said "My band and I got very close on that tour....guess you had to be there." He also talked about sweat pouring out of the cast through a hole at the wrist.
Bruce KICKED ASS on "Under My Skin" (which, by the way, was my request)
Bob remarked that he had to bring The Scabs to Phoenix on account of all the Scab song requests. (Yes! Yes!)
During "2002", he replaced "Seattle" with Phoenix and when he said he got "hooked on heroin," someone in the audience said "Not in Phoenix" and he stopped his song and said, smiling, "Oh, yes, it's in Phoenix. It's everywhere you want to be!" and stumbled to find his place again in the song.
Oh, and they did "It's Time To Go" in the style of Metallica. Where normally, during 'Enter Sandman', they sing "Exxxxit Light, Ennnnter Night", Bob said "It's tiiiiiiime toooo gooooo".
Okay, now my time to vent....some chick kept butting up to the very front of the stage and would light up a cigarette and proceed to blow it in Bob's face. People, be a little fucking courteous to your entertainer. It's one thing to sing in a smoke-filled bar, it's another thing to have someone blowing it directly in your fucking face. Don't do that shit.
I'm sure I'm missing some good stuff, but once again I was so excited to be seeing them again so soon. I'd see them again tomorrow if they came back to Phoenix again that soon! There were alot of people I recognized from the last show, but this time most of them brought friends who were dying to know what the big deal was. And, I must say, none of them were the least bit disappointed. All I have to say is that those Austinites better learn to appreciate what they got, cuz we'll be glad to take Bob away if you don't treat him nice!
